Lady Luck was not shining on talented young Inverell cyclist Ethan Kimmince when he narrowly missed out on taking out the overall yellow jersey in the Men’s Support category at the Jayco Bay Classic in Victoria today.

The Real Aussie Kids rider was competing with the NSW Institute of Sport in Geelong for the four day series and had consistently finished in the top five placings in the first three days of racing comfortably landing him in the yellow jersey on the penultimate stage. “I had a four point lead over my nearest rival, and all I had to do was finish with the bunch and stay out of trouble”, said Kimmince after the race.

However, trouble came looking for him in the form of a crash in the final lap of the 45minute Criterium. “I had some team mates looking after me and they had a train going for me in the final lap, when another rider dropped himself immediately in front of me and I had no where to go”, he said.

Kimmince was uninjured in the crash and was able to cross the finish line, however, it landed him with equal final points to Matt Benson from Western Australian. In the count back, Benson was awarded the Yellow Jersey as he finished in a higher place than Kimmince in the final race. Whilst disappointed with the final outcome, a smiling Kimmince was pleased with his performance throughout the series and looking forward to better luck next time.
